There are several things I remember about the movie, “Risky Business.” First and foremost is the memory of watching this movie when it first came out on home video, with my mom in the room, on Christmas Eve. If you’ve seen the movie, you know there are scenes that a teenage boy LOVES to see, but certainly not with his mother’s eyes burning a hole in the back of his head. Second, I think of these two moments
“Porsche, there is no substitute.” You can still find that on t-shirts and bumper stickers nearly 40 years later. And then there’s this scene that made every sports car loving man cringe.
Both of these involve the Porsche 928. Still to me, the coolest Porsche model of all-time. There were three of them used on the movie. The one that sold at auction last week, was the one used in all the close ups of Tom Cruise driving. In fact, he actually learned to drive a stick shift in the car. The sale price? $1.8 million. Truly, “Porsche…there is no substitute.”
