Seriously, when I saw that a giant pumpkin was disqualified from competition my first thought was, "How does this happen?  Did it shrink overnight?  Did it lose weight?  Did it gain its prodigious size from performance enhancing drugs?"  I mean, what are we talking about here...it's a pumpkin.  Well, here's the 411.  Wisconsin native Mike Schmit grew this monstrous gourd to the tune of 2,520 pounds.  That's right...a pumpkin that weighs more than a ton!  Anyway, back to the weigh-in competition.  There's was no debate about the size being supreme, rather Schmit's pumpkin got canceled because due to internal pressures and the awkward way it was growing, it cracked.

So how costly, really, was this crack?  Well, not only did it cost Schmit a record, but a $20,000 top prize as well.  Ouch.
