ShutterstockAn incredible teenager at Porter Ridge High School is not only studying history but she is making it. Her name is Brielle Mulroy and she is a senior at the school. And she is the first student with special needs to hold a position on a varsity sports team there.
Brielle has Down Syndrome but says that doesn't hold her back in school or in athletics. "I like to be a star. That's who I am" . We love that mantra!
Ashley Lawson is the basketball cheer leading coach and says Brielle started her gymnastics career in elementary school and competed in the Special Olympics. She loved it so much she cheered in middle school and now has made it all the way to varsity cheer in high school.
This very talented high school girl is not only enjoying the sport for herself. She says she hopes to see more special needs athletes on more sports teams in Union County and around the country.
