Panthers Rock Hill Training Facility Construction Comes To A Grinding Halt

My take on this story is not going to be a popular one to a lot of people, but here we go. I'm laughing. When David Tepper bought the Carolina Panthers my first thought was, "How long until he begins the process of playing the 'build me a new stadium' game?" People mocked me. People said I was crazy. Then, a year ago it was announced the team had cut a deal with Rock Hill, SC, to build a brand-new, state-of-the-art, training facility there. To me, this was phase one. With a stadium in one state, and a training facility in another, Tepper could now play two state governments against each other in terms of providing money to build his new stadium. This is how these NFL owners work. They didn't become billionaires by spending THEIR money. Anyway, the new training site was set to open in 2023. Now? Ooops!
According to Tepper's people, the city of Rock Hill has not lived up to their financial agreements and responsibilities in more than a year. So now, construction has halted. Look, this is probably a very temporary thing, but it still makes me laugh that Tepper's plan ran into a roadblock. I hope he continues to run into them. Taxpayers being held hostage for billionaires and their sports toys is patently offensive to me. I watched it happen over-and-over in Houston when I was growing up. I've watched it happen all over the country as an adult. I was not enjoying watching it happen here.
