“Don’t You Think It’s Time…”-The Judds Return
At last night’s CMT Awards, a bizarre yet welcome event occurred. For the first time in more than a decade a particular mother and daughter stepped out to perform together. Wynonna and Naomi Judd performed the title track of their final studio album together, “Love Can Build A Bridge.” I was sitting there thinking that the CMT’s target audience not only hadn’t heard of The Judds, but was wondering what were they doing there. Admittedly, you don’t see a 76-year-old woman and her 57-year-old daughter performing every day. That being said, Wynonna still showed she has a powerful voice.

The reason for The Judds nostalgia show last night is simple: they’re going on tour for the first time since their “Farewell Tour” in 1991. At the time, Naomi had announced she had contracted Hepatitis C and could no longer stand for the rigors of their career. In reality, I believe she was tired and Wynonna was tired of being with her mother and was eager to start her solo career (which she did!). Anyway, The tour will start in Grand Rapids on September 30th and wrap up one month later. A telling moment from last night’s performance was after the first chorus when Wynonna said, “This is really happening.” Yes it is. For those who need a tutorial and why this sentiment might be said?
Another female country icon, Martina McBride will open for The Judds on the tour. At the moment there’s no Charlotte date, in fact the closest appearance will be in Duluth (Atlanta) on October 14.
