Wounded Heroes Day Waxhaw Ceremony Happening This Weekend
In partnership with the Town of Waxhaw, NC, the Independence Fund will host a ceremony at the Waxhaw Military Wall of Honor on Sunday, April 24, 2022, in honor of retired SGT Michael Verardo.
The Independence Fund and the state of North Carolina marked Wounded Heroes Day on April 24th, 2021, bypassing House Bill 138/Senate Bill 132. From 1 pm to 2 pm, the event will take place. The ceremony will take place at the Military Wall of Honor in Waxhaw.
The day commemorates SGT Michael Verardo’s Alive Day, which commemorates the day that he survived severe, life-altering injuries sustained in Afghanistan. In 2022, Michael will celebrate his 12th Alive Day and North Carolina will celebrate its second Wounded Heroes Day.
