Louisiana is known for its annual Mardi Gras festival, the French Quarter, and its jazz music, not everything in the state bring smiles to residents' faces. They pay more for car insurance than everyone else in the United States. According to Insure.com, the average cost for an auto insurance policy in Louisiana is a staggering $2,839 a year.
That figure marks a 19 percent increase from just two years ago. Coming in at number two is Michigan, followed by Florida, per Insure.com. On the other side of the coin is Maine. Residents pay an average of $858 per year. That's 40 percent less than the national average.
