Gallery: The Mountains and Beach In North Carolina On Vacation
It is time for your summer vacation and you aren’t ready yet to go too far. Lucky for us here in North Carolina, we can go to the mountains and the beach all in one fun-filled week and you can do it with ease. I know this because that is exactly what my husband and I did this past week.
The Vacation
We first ventured up to Valle Crucis (near Boone) for a few nights and had very unique accommodations. I read about the Mast Farm Inn in one of those fancy, Southern Living, type magazines and it looked super interesting. Back in the late 1700s, a guy named Joseph Mast traveled to North Carolina and “bought” one thousand acres of land for the sum of a rifle, a dog, and a pair of leggings. We stayed in his cabin, completed in 1810, and is on the historic registry as the oldest habitable log cabin in the state of North Carolina. It was so wild to stay there and think about all the history that place has seen. So much of the structure is original but of course, has been modernized with all the conveniences we enjoy here in 2022. Still, you feel like you are hundreds of years in the past. We had fun imagining we were the Mast family 212 years ago; what did they say between those walls, what were their joys and their sorrows.

Then after a few nights there we headed to the North Carolina coast and stayed in Holden Beach. We love those Brunswick County, North Carolina beaches. They aren’t crowded, the beaches are wide and clean and the water is always gorgeous. Plus we love the small-town feel there in Ocean Isle, Sunset Beach, Oak Island, and Holden Beach.
