Two years ago, our family came down to Myrtle Beach with our best friends for Memorial Day. We’ve been coming to the beach with them for years and it has always about good times and making memories. However, this was 2020. We came down to take pictures of our sons as they were set to graduate from High School. We were searching for something “fun” for these guys to remember the final moments of high school. Neither had been in class since early spring (Covid canceled their senior year(s) in March), and graduation was all they had left-and it wasn’t a sure thing they were going to have that (luckily, they did!)
Our boys. Our son Hogan is on the right and our “other son,” Lucas is on the left. This picture was taken right out in front of “Ocean Annies” on Memorial Day. I wish there was audio to this. I wish I had a wider shot to share. What you would hear is nothing. What you would see is a deserted beach except for our picture taking crew. Did I mention this was Memorial Day-the official kickoff of summer-at Myrtle Beach, at Ocean Annies?! Normally, the band would be blaring out on the deck showering the PACKED beach with music. I’ll never forget how somber and depressing that day was, knowing what normally would be happening. Which leads me to this video from Sunday afternoon, on the deck of Ocean Annies.
Folks, we’re back. I realize this is a holiday where we should all take a moment to recognize the ultimate sacrifice paid by our soldiers to ensure our freedom(s). However, those that paid that price have to be looking down and smiling at this man’s implementation of his freedom. God bless America. God bless Myrtle Beach and Ocean Annie’s. And God bless us all as we continue to navigate this thing called life in good and bad times, together.
