At about 10 AM many areas of the city started experiencing an odor of natural gas. The City Of Charlotte has released this statement.
NATURAL GAS ODOR - CITY OF CHARLOTTE
WE ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING A HIGH 911 CALL VOLUME RELATED TO THE ODOR OF NATURAL GAS, THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE. WE BELIEVE THAT WEATHER 'AN INVERSION' IS KEEPING THE ODOR CLOSE TO THE SURFACE, MAKING IT EASY TO SMELL. WE ARE WORKING WITH PIEDMONT NATURAL GAS TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THIS ODOR. THERE IS NO NEED TO REPORT THIS ODOR UNLESS YOU HAVE A MEDICAL EMERGENCY OR YOU FEEL THAT THIS ODOR IS COMING FROM YOUR HOME OR BUILDING.
