Let me preface everything I’m about to say with this warning: MOM AND DAD…THIS IS NOT A SHOW TO WATCH AROUND THE KIDS. I’m serious. You’ve been warned. I actually remember seeing the trailer for this a couple of weeks ago and thinking, “That looks interesting.” Then we went on vacation, and I forgot about it. However, yesterday afternoon I came across a link to an article with this teaser: “Netflix users are calling its latest true-crime documentary one of the most frightening things they’ve ever watched.” Okay, we’re in. It’s called “The Girl in the Picture.” Here’s the trailer I mentioned.
Y’all I don’t even know where to begin. This documentary, to us, can best be described with one word: evil. What begins as a murder of a young woman leads to a kidnapping of her son, which leads to the unravelling of a mystery of who this woman and her father (or is it her husband) actually were. There are so many dark themes and undertones of this show, I don’t want to go into them all here (spoilers). You will walk away horrified. That being said, for just over 100 minutes, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen.
