Two Parents Create Triumph From Tragedy
Debbie and I have done countless interviews over the years. I never had one that caused me sleepless nights like this one did. On March 15,2022, Jackson Zinn was one of the University of the Southwest student golfers who lost his life in a tragic car accident in Texas. His mother, Jennifer is a friend of mine. We went to high school together. Each week you can download from the main page here my golf show/podcast, “Taking Dead Aim.” I’d been wanting to talk with Jen and her ex-husband, Greg about their son for the show, but I wanted to wait until the time was right. And really, would there ever be a time? Also, what do you say? What can you ask? Is it right to ask questions like this of a friend going through something like this? These were the queries that kept me awake for the two nights leading to our conversation yesterday. It turns out, that time is now as they’ve organized a charity, memorial golf tournament in their son’s honor and name with a goal of cementing his legacy in the game he loved so much. Here their segment from this week’s “Taking Dead Aim.”
There are no words for the admiration I feel for Jennifer and Greg. Their son’s death hit far too close to home as my son is also involved in the golf world while in college. I don’t believe I have their inner strength or strong enough faith to turn a personal tragedy like this into a triumph and lasting legacy for their great son.
