If your passport is coming up for renewal, things have just become simpler to get that up-to-date passport.  According to Disneyfoodblog.com, the US Department of State is testing a pilot program that would allow you to renew your passport online.

The program will only allow for 25,000 volunteers to take part this month and if you're eligible you'll be able to try the program for yourself, saving you time and making the process more convenient. If you want to give it a try, just head to the US Dept of State website and get all the info. If things go well with the pilot program, it'll be open to all later this year.

So, how do you sign up? First, you’ll want to visit the U.S. Department of State website for the Pilot Program. As they note there, they’re only accepting applications for up to 25,000 individuals in August. The applications are being accepted on a first-come, first serve basis. If you’re not one of the first 25,000 to apply you may still get the chance to renew online at a later date though.
