According to WCNC, the newest K-9 member of the Union County Sheriff’s Department officially has a new name. He will be called “Griff.” They came up with the name  “Griff” after a brief naming contest where community members voted for their favorite name.

The name “Griff” was placed as an option in honor of Union County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Brian Griffin, who has been involved with the K-9 program since 2000. “Griff” is an 11-week-old German Shephard that was brought onto the sheriff’s office to be a K-9 this month. More than 2,000 people voted for his name to be “Griff.”

“Griff” was one of nine names that people had the chance to vote on for the K-9’s name. Some of the others included Logan, Union, and Radar.
