According to The Conscious Cat, August 17 is Black Cat Appreciation Day. This “holiday” was created to help dispel some of the myths and ridiculous prejudices that surround these beautiful cats.
I have owned two totally black cats in my life and they seem to be the smartest and most curious of all the cats I have been a servant to. My late black cat "Boo" was amazing and would snuggle up next to me every night. My latest black cat "Smudge" has started doing the same thing recently.
In the Middle Ages, black cats were thought to be reincarnated witches or messengers of witches or demons. This association of black cats with witches has become so ingrained in our culture that they’ve become synonymous with Halloween.
