North Carolina Woman Encourages Others To Donate Their Organs
According to ABC11, a Durham, NC woman is living her life to the fullest thanks to an organ donation.
68-year-old Yvette Matthews received a liver transplant 12 years after she was diagnosed with rare liver disease in 2001. It was just about one year later that Matthews attended her first Transplant Games of America competition. She now has more than 30 medals. Yvette is an amazing track and field athlete.
She had this to say recently “The organ donors, the organ recipients, the organ donor families, you get wrapped up in this feeling of joy, of celebration, of remembrance. “It is more than the competition.”
Unfortunately, North Carolina is below the national average of registered donors. But you can help. You can become a donor by saying “yes” to being an organ donor at the DMV or by registering at registerme.org.
