Video: Check Out This Weird Instrument
At first I thought this guy was just crazy.
His excitement over unboxing the strange instrument seemed over the top, but by the end of the video, I was wondering whether I should get one.
In the video posted to Reddit by user u/DapperMasterpiece29, Hal Walker demonstrates his newest khaen (pronounced “can”). It’s an instrument that originated in Laos and Thailand, and is a kind of mouth-powered pipe organ made from bamboo.
Walker goes into interesting detail about how the khaen makes its sound and even shows some techniques for playing. He has quite a following online, and some social media users are even sampling and mixing his music for their videos.
