Do you enjoy a home-cooked meal? I know I do. Earlier this year, I made it a goal of mine to cut back on eating out. Not only did I want to save some money, but I also wanted to be able to become a bit healthier. I work out 4-6 days a week and eating out was becoming distracting. It was keeping my body from fully transforming the way I wanted. So, now I balance my eating out and cooking. Sunday-Thursday, I cook. Friday and Saturday, I splurge. Seeing the difference in my body, and also my pockets is really paying off. But, how much money am I really saving by cooking so much?
A recent study discusses how much South Carolinians can save by staying in the house and cooking. The State reports that a new study shows that South Carolinians can save nearly $15.56 per meal when they eat at home. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average spent on eating out is nearly $3,500 a year. That is a whole lot of McDonald’s! Taking the cost of restaurant meals and the cost of cooking in states, Top Nutrition Coaching determined the numbers per state. South Carolina is one of the most expensive states to eat out in. Other states include Washington, Florida, Nebraska, and Rhode Island.
If you are someone that has recently thought about cooking more meals, then maybe you should. Whether you are in North Carolina or South Carolina, cooking at home will save you plenty of money.
