More Of Us Know Big Mac Ingredients Than Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments.  By their name alone, you are informed that these are not "suggestions" from God, but "must-do" items, which makes this story both fascinating and embarrassing to me.  Full admission here, I'm as bad as the rest of you on this.  I was raised in the Baptist Church.  My folks had us there every time the doors were open (it seemed).  I went to a Baptist university (Baylor).  You would think (and I know my mother hoped) things like this would have stuck.  Apparently not.  In fact, according to a new survey from Kelton Research, Americans can name the seven ingredients in a McDonald's Big Mac hamburger more readily than they can name The Ten Commandments.

Wait, it gets better (or worse if you're a preacher shaking your head at this point).  80% of us know that "two all-beef patties" are a Big Mac's primary ingredient.  However less than 60% were able to recall the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill."  At this point, admit it, you're trying to recall all ten, aren't you?  While you're embarrassing yourself (I know, I was where you are when I first saw this), let me continue.  76% of Americans remember that lettuce is a Big Mac Ingredient.  75% are aware of the sesame-seed bun.  66% of Americans easily recall special sauce.  62% are able to remember pickles as a Big Mac staple.  And 60% know cheese off the top of their heads (who doesn't remember cheese is on a Big Mac?!).  However, only 45% remember the commandment, "Honor Your Father And Mother."  Do we all need some serious Sunday School in our life or what?  Okay, so before you run to find your Bible, or Google them, here are The Ten Commandments.:

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
2. Thou shalt shall make no idols.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. Thou shat not murder.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. Thou shalt not covet.

How'd you do?  And no, I'm not going to list the Big Mac ingredients.  Pretty sure you don't need them. <g>
