Dessert Snacks Facing Recall
Popular dessert snacks are facing a recall this week. Tastykake and Mrs. Freshley’s glazed pies from the snack makers found undeclared allergens in the foods. The voluntary recall from Flower Foods is due to soy in some products that was not on the label. For consumers with allergies or sensitivities to the ingredient, the effects could be serious or life-threatening. The popular dessert snacks facing the recall contain “enjoy by” dates of October 28 through November 22 of this year. The products were distributed from September 26 through October 6. If you bought any of these snacks, here are codes to check. Look for 307 2263 through 307 2274. You can find the numbers on the front of the package. And, just in case you want to check your pantry to see if you have any of the recalled products, here are products in the recall. On the list are Tastykake Glazed Lemon Flavored Pie, Glazed Apple Pie, Glazed Caramel Apple Pie and Glazed Cherry Pie. Mrs. Freshley’s products in the recall are Apple Fruit Pie and Cherry Fruit Pie. The alert does not have any confirmed illness or reactions associated with the products at this time. Look here for complete list of the products involved.
Although soy allergies are common in infancy, most children outgrow them. However, some adults continue to experience the allergy. And, symptoms can include hives, itching around the mouth, wheezing, swelling of lips and face, diarrhea and vomiting. The FDA recommends that consumers discard or return any of the recalled products to the site of purchase for a full refund. So, before you reach for that snack, check the label. Make sure it’s not one of the recalled products.
