Man Who Sued Texas Pete Brought Suits Against Two Other Companies
The man, Philip White, who recently sued the makers of Texas Pete hot sauce, brought suits against two other companies. To refresh your memory, White sued the North Carolina based company that makes the hot sauce. His complaint says the company used false advertising leading consumers to believe the North Carolina product comes from Texas. He seeks a name change for the company and damages. By the way, demand for the product spiked since his lawsuit hit the press. Just days after the story broke, sales spiked by 71% compared to the average for the year. Sometimes even bad press is good press! And now we learn the same man sued two other companies. White sued Kroger last year. That suit involved “Reef Friendly” sunscreen. He claims the ingredients may negatively impact marine life. His suit accuses the grocery chain of “greenwashing” products and falsely labeling products that may cause harm to consumers and the environment. The complaint notes Hawaii banned two of the ingredients in Reef Friendly. And, the National Park Service lists four ingredients in the product as chemicals that can damage coral reefs. His suit against Whole Foods claims boxes of macaroni and cheese are merely half full. He filed this suit in June of this year also naming Mrs. Gooch’s Food Markets, Inc. The complaint says the food makers sell mac and cheese products in oversized containers that “do not reasonably inform consumers they are half empty.” In the meantime, here’s an interesting recipe with Whole Foods mac and cheese! So, this cook makes mac and cheese adding red lentils to boost the protein levels.
White also unsuccessfully sued the makers of fiber supplement Benefiber two years ago. The courts dismissed the case with prejudice. If nothing else, Philip White keeps the law firm representing him very busy.
