Charlotte FC Debuts New Mini Pitch At Nations Ford Elementary
Sometimes, you have to give the Devil his due. Now, David Tepper’s ownership of the Carolina Panthers can best be described as a trainwreck. And I use that term wary that it may be an insult (understatement) to trainwrecks. That being said, Tepper’s soccer venture in the Queen City has gone much better than I expected. The Charlotte FC’s debut season had them almost making the playoffs and drew BIG crowds for each of the team’s home games. In fact, as many negative comments as I hear regarding Tepper’s football ownership are equaled in positives when referencing his futbol ownership. A spinoff of his team has been a commitment to “grow the game” with kids and the community. The David and Nicole Tepper Foundation’s pledge to build 22 “mini pitches” in the area continues its promise.
The latest of these soccer fields (the American term <g>) in the foundation’s “Pitches for Progress” initiative was unveiled at Nations Ford Elementary School yesterday. Charlotte FC installed another mini-pitch in September at Idlewild Elementary School. Having been involved in the game of golf and several different initiatives designed to grow that game. I cannot applaud this enough. Please, raise your hand if you’re against providing a nice, safe place for kids to compete in a great game? That’s what I thought. Don’t misread my praise here. This doesn’t erase the disaster that is Tepper’s ownership (to this point) of the Carolina Panthers. That being said, The David and Nicole Tepper Foundation has hit another home run with this.
