According to CBS17, North Carolina’s hospitals have slipped in a watchdog’s safety rankings but still remain among the best in the nation.
Nearly 45 percent of hospitals in the state earned a grade of A. These rankings are based on 30 ways to measure patient safety in the Leapfrog Group’s biannual report card for safety. That rate puts North Carolina at No. 7 nationally. The state had ranked number 1 in May of this year. Nearly 60 percent of our hospitals earned an A.

Today they released their 2022-2023 rankings for the Top Hospitals in the nation as well as regionally in North Carolina.
Here's how they decided on this list: "In 2022-2023 U.S. News Best Hospitals ranked hospitals in the U.S. in 15 adult specialties as well as recognized hospitals by state, metro, and regional areas for their work in 20 more widely performed procedures and conditions. Of the nearly 5,000 hospitals analyzed and 30,000 physicians surveyed, only 164 hospitals ranked in at least one of the specialties."
One Charlotte area hospital came in at number 3 on this list. Several surrounding area institutions were also recognized. You can get the full national breakdown here.
