Underrated Christmas Gifts To Add To Your Wish List

I always tell myself every year that I won’t overthink gift shopping.  However, it happens again and again.  I spend days making sure I try to find the perfect gift for each person.  Will they like it?  Will they actually use it or wear it?  Then, I stumbled upon this list from Reddit that let me off the hook a bit.  It’s the most “underrated” Christmas gifts according to Reddit users.  It basically tells us that even though we may think everyone wants a super special gift that requires shopping and spending, the things people really want are much simpler.  After asking the question about underrated Christmas gifts on the Reddit platform, readers chimed in to answer.  One of the most common responses revolved around common household staples.  The gifts they appreciate the most included, socks, streaming subscriptions, sheets and toilet paper!

One user related the story of looking forward each year to a care package from her mom.  The box is full of TP, paper towels, dish soap, laundry detergent and trash bags.  And, when you think about how expensive everything is these days, that’s actually saving the recipient a lot of money in the coming weeks.  It’s a great way to start the new year.  Another responder to the question says towels and windshield wiper blades got a warm welcome from the recipient.  Then, some went on to say their grandmother paid off a utility bill for them.  And, others gave out gas cards.  Again, what an awesome gift when those things cost us so much every day.  Of course, my mother-in-law is a big sock giver.  She loves to give everyone socks in their stocking “sock.”  After all, we don’t typically think about sock shopping for ourselves.  But, we need them.  And, going back to grandmas just knowing what you need.  One Reddit user said, “Grandma told us every year, ‘Just give me something I can smoke, drink or eat.'”  I think that’s priceless!

There Are The Most Insulting Christmas Gifts You Can Give

Gifting can be hard. Full disclosure I still have several people I have no idea what to get for Christmas. But there are some things that should never be considered. Have you ever received a crumpled 5 dollar bill in a Christmas card? Or soap? Well, CardSnacks surveyed over 1,000 people to learn more about their experiences giving and receiving what many would consider “insulting” gifts. Some were given intentionally others may have had good intentions. But good intentions don’t always mean well received.

I was surprised to find out that 57% of people say they have received an insulting gift. And 79% of those feel the gift was intended to be insulting. Cash was identified as one of the most insulting gifts. It can seem last minute, shows a lack of creativity,  and can give implications of mismanaging money.
