Some folks like eggnog during the holidays. However, if that’s not really your thing you might want to try the latest trend of Pepsi and milk. But, is it really new? Pepsi’s new campaign encourages people to mix the soda with milk for a tasty holiday treat. I started noticing this all over social media and news reports recently. Lindsay Lohan leads the campaign that asks consumers to post their experience with the concoction using the hashtag #pilkandcookies. Therefore, the idea is it’s a great drink with holiday cookies. Pepsi offers cash prizes for the online challenge. And, Pepsi started the ad campaign following the TikTok “dirty soda” trend. The trend involves people drinking soda after adding things like syrup and cream. But, it struck me that this was a very familiar notion. If you’re of a certain age, you might remember the sitcom “Laverne and Shirley.” For those not in the know, it was a show in the 70s about two friends and roommates in Milwaukee who worked on the line at “Shotz Brewery.” The show starred Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams. They had quirky neighbors “Lenny” and “Squiggy” who were always popping in. It was a pretty standard formula for sitcoms that pre-dated Friends and Seinfeld. Now that you have the background, this is how it fits into the new trend. Penny Marshall’s character “Laverne” made her signature Pepsi and milk drink quite often. I thought at the time it was pretty strange. Although, when you really think about it, it’s like having a float where the ice cream melted. I think I’ll stick with traditional floats if I want that vibe. Or, hey, it’s the holidays. There’s always some sort of cocktail involving vodka!
