You Gotta Love Tim McGraw’s Cover Of A George Strait Christmas Classic
I’ve stated this many times before, but in case you missed it…as a country music DJ, born and raised in Texas, I have this firm belief. There are two types of male country singers: George Strait and those who wish they were George Strait. That’s it, that’s the list. So, ANY TIME I see where a country singer has dared to step into “King George’s” shoes, I automatically go into cringe mode. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this Tim McGraw cover of Strait’s “Christmas Cookies.”
I love the casual, playfulness of Tim McGraw giving us his take on a very playful Christmas tune. I even love that he screwed up the lyrics (on purpose-btw) and posted it anyway. “I sure do like those Christmas cookies, sugar / I sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe / The ones that look like Santa Claus / Christmas trees and stars and balls / I sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe.” In case you were wondering, it’s supposed to be “bells” not “balls.” <g> And since we’re paying attention to the cover here, why don’t we pay attention to the original as well.
