“Hillbilly Bone” Duet With Blake Leads to Bryce Leatherwood Voice Win
Blake Shelton said throughout this season on “The Voice” that there’s never been a more country sounding name than Bryce Leatherwood. On Tuesday night, both proved there’s more to Bryce than just his name. The season finale of television’s top-rated talent competition kicked off with the two performing “Hillbilly Bone.” Bryce took over the Trace Adkins parts while Blake reprised his from the 2009 hit.
Okay, so this was Bryce’s final performance of the season. However, I always like to look back to the first. And since he ended on a Blake Shelton tune, I hasten to point out that he got Blake to be the first to turn his chair in the Blind Audition Phase by performing ANOTHER of Blake’s hits (albeit a Conway Twitty cover), “Goodbye Time.”
Apparently, the kid knew what he was doing as last night he was crowned champion of this season in yet another win for Team Blake. Who knows what’s ahead? There’s never been a “Voice” winner that’s really made an impact in country music. Now, there have been plenty (Morgan Wallen, Brett Young for example) who have been involved, but not won, who have, but… That being said, Bryce Leatherwood’s vocal talent is undeniable. It would be great if the Nashville establishment can somehow get its act together and before Blake “retires” from the show at the end of next season and finds a way to make a success of one of the country-centric winners. One thing’s for sure not a problem. I mean Blake’s right, has there EVER been a better, more country name than Leatherwood?!
