Growing up in Texas, if you were into sports, you COULDN'T WAIT to get to middle school (called "Jr. High School"), specifically 7th grade.  That was the first opportunity you had to play for your school.  To do so meant trying out and being selected.  There was no money any parent could pay to get their kid on the team(s).  We looked at every time we had as essentially an "all-star team" of all the neighborhood sports associations we all played for up to that point.  The picture above is of our 7th grade basketball team at Bleyl Jr. High.  Oh, what the heck, here's the 8th grade team as well.

Basketball was a huge part of my life.  Eventually, I would play for a US team overseas in Italy in the summer between my junior and senior years in high school.  That being said, these first two teams probably mean more to me than any others I was fortunate enough to be a part of.  Anyway, it was during these two years that I made a couple of shots from around half court.  You know the kind of shot I'm talking about.  Literally a heave towards the basket as time is expiring.  My dad always referred to them as "prayers."  However, none of the ones I made won the game or were NEARLY as amazing as this one.

To set the scene, with his team down 2 points with two seconds remaining, my man snags the rock out of the sky, gets turned around backwards (away from the goal), and proceeds to throw a two-handed "granny shot" over his head...nothing but net!  No matter what happens in this kid's life, in or out of sports, he (and this shot) is now, "legend."
