Romeo and Juliet Actors Suing Studio Over Underage Nude Scene
Two actors that played Romeo and Juliet in a 1968 film version of the play are taking Paramount Studios to court. The Wrap says that Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, who were teenagers during filming, are suing for child abuse over a nude scene in the film.
According to the lawsuit, the actors claim the director, Franco Zeffirelli, said there would be no nudity in their bedroom scene but wanted the two to perform in the nude “or the picture would fail.” When the film was released, it was a hit for Paramount and even won two Oscar awards for best cinematography and costume design. It’s been over 55 years since the release of the film. They are suing for 500 million!
