Here Are The Top Five Dishes Featuring Paprika
During this morning’s show, we pulled an impromptu prank on Catherine by making her question the pronunciation of paprika. Is it papREEKa or PAPrika?
Irregardless of how you pronounce it, paprika is prominently featured in a number of my favorite dishes. Here are the top five dishes/foods that feature paprika:
- Goulash: This is number one on my list for a reason. It’s a hearty stew of meat, vegetables and spices that originated in Hungary. It is typically made with beef or pork, and seasoned with paprika and other spices like caraway seeds and garlic.
- Chicken paprikash: If you love stewed chicken, you’ll love chicken paprikash. It’s also Hungarian in origin, and is made with chicken, paprika and sour cream. The chicken is browned and then simmered in a sauce made with paprika, onions, and tomato paste. Chicken paprikash is commonly served with dumplings or egg noodles.
- Paella: My neighbor just made this two days ago! Paella is a Spanish dish made with rice, seafood and a variety of vegetables. Paprika is often dominantly featured, as well as other spices such as saffron and cumin.
- Chorizo: This is a spicy pork sausage seasoned with paprika and other spices like garlic and cumin. It is popular in Spanish and Portuguese cuisine.
- Ceviche: This is a Latin American dish made with raw fish or seafood that is marinated in citrus juice and spices. It is often seasoned with paprika, as well as other spices like cumin and chili pepper.
