Just when I thought I had lost all faith in humanity to do good things for one another, a story like this comes along.  Butch Marion is and 82-year-old Navy veteran who worked at a Maryland Wal Mart.  Note, I use the past tense of "work."  That's because Butch Marion is now officially retired thanks to the generosity of others.  Rory McCarty got the ball rolling on this.  He posted this video to TikTok explaining to Marion a story of how a woman's "GoFundMe" campaign raised $100,000 of a lady to retire.  So, then Rory decided to try the same thing for Butch.

Fast forward, and now the video has more than two million views on social media.  A GoFundMe was formed and guess what?  More than $108,000 was raised and the amount was presented to Butch Marion in the form of one of those gigantic checks last Wednesday.  I feel certain there was a more deposit able version as well.  In any event, Butch Marion has checked out his last Wal Mart shopper.

Butch Marion's backstory makes you glad this happened.  He was a General Motors worker who retired from that company to take care of his wife's ex-husband.  When he passed, Marion then took care of his wife until her demise.  He then went back to work at Wal Mart.  Now, this father and grandfather plans to pay off some bills, relax and use some of his new windfall to travel to Florida.  That's where his daughters and grandchildren live.  And he hasn't hugged them in years.
