Duke energy wants to raise rates for North Carolina customers. Channel 9 says Duke Energy officials reportedly asked regulators to raise rates by nearly 18 percent over the next three years.
Duke energy covers western North Carolina, Charlotte and parts of the triad. So what will the new funds be going towards? I can’t imagine this news will make Duke energy customers very happy. I mean we are up in arms over the price of eggs and power is expensive enough as it is for most of us, having to pay more for power seems frightening. Oh and of course there is still that touchy issue of the black out roll outs.
According to WSOCTV, the proceeds from the rate increase would go in part towards making the grid system better and improved. If Duke Energy’s request gets full approval it would mean 820 million dollars more for the company by 2026.
So who decides? That would be up to the North Carolina state utilities commission. The seven member board is chosen by the Governor. They could either approve the full request of modify the request.
So, get ready Charlotte, western North Carolina and parts of the triad, you may be having to dig dipper to pay for power. Duke Energy wants to raise rates for North Carolina customers.
