Charlotte North Carolina’s Valentines For Widows Project Grows
Valentine’s Day is associated with love, hearts, flowers and happy relationships. However, it sometimes can be a sad day for those who find themselves alone. A Charlotte North Carolina woman started a mission back in 2020 to change that. According to WCNC, Ashley Manning chose to deliver flowers to her son’s teacher who had recently lost her spouse to cancer. And, Manning’s simple gesture to spread love continues to grow leaps and bounds today. The single act turned into a movement to brighten the day for widows, divorced people, singles and men who have lost a spouse. Now, Charlotte North Carolina’s valentines for widows project involves a whopping 800 volunteers. Following her first delivery to her son’s teacher back in 2020, she asked people to nominate widows for free deliveries. And, she expected a handful of participants. However, the number grew to about 125 the first year. The movement continued to grow gaining national attention. And, before she knew it she received 400 nominations within 2 weeks of opening up for another round.
Manning points out that the project redefines the day for many. She likes to “flip the switch” on love for February 14. It doesn’t have to be reserved just for people with partners. For many, the delivery is a welcome surprise. It’s nice to know that someone, somewhere thought of you. And, spreading love is such a simple act. It’s hard to believe this wildfire started with just a small spark. Manning says she continues to accept donations and nominations this year. So, visit the Pretty Things by A.E. Manning website to get more information. And, congratulations on a job well done as Charlotte North Carolina’s Valentines for Widows grows!
