According to Today, Edwin Castro is America’s newest billionaire. Castro has stepped forward to claim the jackpot from November’s record Powerball drawing, which totaled $2.04 billion.
California Lottery Director Alva Johnson says the winning ticket was sold at a service station in Altadena, a community northeast of Los Angeles. November’s jackpot grew to $2.04 billion after no one matched all the numbers for three months.
In California, winners’ names are public records, and winners cannot remain anonymous. Other identifying information, like a place of residence or age, is not.
Edwin chose the lump-sum payment, which amounts to $997.6 million. The chances of picking all six numbers correctly? One in 292.2 million.
