In my opinion, there's never a bad time for mac & cheese.  It's the ultimate comfort dish no matter the occasion.  So, I wondered where to find the best Mac and Cheese in South Carolina.  My search led me to Only In Your State.  And, their top vote echoed what I see in multiple online surveys!  In fact, South Carolina holds the cheesy delicacy in such high esteem, there's an annual event celebrating it.  The "Mac Off" took place in Mount Pleasant every year for 9 in a row.  Therefore, I put stock in what they had to say.  The "Mac Off" allows locals eateries, cafes and caterers to try their hand at making "the best."  And, in 2014,  a restaurant at a Kiawah Island Resort took home the prize for People's Choice macaroni and cheese.  So, with that accolade, the creation made it into the books as one of the official best Mac and Cheese dishes in South Carolina.  Oh, by the way, we are referring to Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House!

The People's Choice Mac and Cheese comes together with four different kinds of cheese.  And, that's the most important part, right?  Plus, Cherrywood's Mac and Cheese won the "Critics Choice Award" every time it entered the Mac Off.  And, be ready for a little kick in all the creamy goodness.  The good news is you don't have to be a resort guest to visit Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House.  But, they recommend making a reservation and giving that info to the guard at the gate.  Visit the restaurant at the clubhouse on Osprey Point Golf Course.   And, Only in Your State points out they serve delicious award-winning bbq, too.  But make sure you try the best mac and cheese at this hidden gem in South Carolina!
