Something happened to the real estate market during the pandemic. And, we saw large numbers of people moving away from heavily congested urban areas in favor of suburbs. We also experienced record home sales over the last few years in a seller's market. Also, we saw cash offers, many over asking, with homes vanishing from inventory hours after listing. However, with rising interest rates of late, home sales slowed. But, according to WCBD, many continue to relocate. And, close to 100% start searches online as reported in 2021 by the National Association of Realtors. So, Stacker took a look at where people choose to move. Which two North Carolina towns are Charleston, South Carolina residents moving to?
They chose to examine the Charleston, South Carolina market to see where potential buyers searched and moved. And, the data analyzed looks at cities and surrounding suburbs from the last quarter of 2022. Furthermore, the study looked at monthly inventory from the first month of 2023. Stacker, which compiles data driven lifestyle stories on topics from money to entertainment and travel and more, created a list based on the data. And, several cities across the South showed up in the list. While those in the top 10 include locations in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, a couple in North Carolina made an appearance near the top. So, which two North Carolina towns are Charleston residents moving to? Well, coming in at number 5 is Asheville. The median listing price for homes is just over $527,000, at $281 per square foot. And, Charlotte comes in at number 2. The median listing price for homes in Charlotte is just under $390,000, with a $204 per square foot price.
