Until a couple of years ago, most of us never heard of Pickleball. However, it seems to be taking the world by storm. And now, a new Pickleball league is starting in Charlotte, North Carolina. WCNC reports "Play The Ladders" launches its inaugural season March 20, 2023. According to the announcement, the league offers year round competitive matches. But, the spirit of matches will also be friendly. And, the date, time and location of matches is up to competitors. Seasons in the new league last about 8 weeks. Plus, the season ends with a tournament including trophy and prizes. The fee for joining the season is $25. And, the league offers doubles and mixed doubles. Also, if players find themselves without a partner, the league offers help with that, too.
One of the founders, Julie Lowe, says the league is a chance to get active and meet new people. And, it offers the convenience of scheduling flexibility. Plus, the league plans to donate a portion of proceeds from each season to various community organizations. The league says this season's partner is Bosom Buddies, a Charlotte-based non profit hosting tennis clinic fundraisers that benefit breast cancer programs and research.
So, with the season starting March 20, interested parties need to sign up now. There are 200 spots available. And, they expect them to fill quickly. North Carolina City One Of The Worst For Recreation
July is National Park and Recreation Month. We are lucky here in North Carolina that we have several National Parks and opportunities for outdoor recreation. That's why I was surprised to see that a North Carolina city ranked as one of the worst for Outdoor recreation. The personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2022's Best & Worst Cities for Recreation.
The cities at the top of the list offer residents a wide range of leisure activities, both indoor and outdoor. Activities require varying levels of exercise and athletic ability. And surprisingly all the major NC cities ranked towards the bottom of the list. Which considering we have theme parks, greenways, mountains, beaches, etc all within a reasonable driving distance is interesting. I personally, having lived in two North Carolina cities have never felt that I had a lack of options for recreation. But clearly, it could be better in other places! WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 47 key indicators of recreation-friendliness. For each city, they examined the accessibility of entertainment and recreational facilities, the quality of parks, and the weather.
