Lately, we have had quite a few occurrences of people pointing lasers at airplanes. Experts say that green lasers are the most dangerous when pointed at an aircraft. According to the Federal Aviation Administration says laser beams can temporarily blind pilots, and also cause long-term vision damage. This past week we have had another laser strike, and according to FAA, twenty-six laser strikes were reported in North Carolina in the first two months of the year. There have been 40 reported from January to November of last year. When the FBI gets involved, there is a chance of someone facing five years in prison if caught doing the bad deed. Think about how blinding it is for us to get hit with blinding headlights on the highway. When pilots get distracted by bright visible laser lights it causes unneeded distractions. Critical times of danger are the landing and takeoffs.
No plane crashes have been reported due to laser strikes, but the federal agency recorded a total of 269 incidents with injuries thus far.
