In my opinion there are two different ways to treat a stereotype on screen.  As an actor, you can either “lean in” to it, or “lean away” from it.  There’s is a new movie coming out next month on Apple TV+ that appears to provide a little of each.  It’s called, “Ghosted.”  The movie stars Ana de Armas and Chris Evans.  The two worked together on Netfix’s “The Gray Man” (pictured above w/co-star Ryan Gosling).

Let’s start with the “leaning in.”  Ana de Armas came into the zeitgeist as a deadly secret agent in the latest James Bond movie, “No Time To Die.”

Well, in “Ghosted,” she is playing, wait for it, a deadly secret agent with the CIA named “Sadie.”  In fact, some of the fight choreography in “Ghosted”‘s trailer looks like it was taken directly from the Bond film.  Now for the “leaning away.”

There’s no need for me to remind you who Chris Evans is.  He IS “Captain America.”  There has never been a more macho, alpha male, stereotypical hero on the big screen than he.  Well, in “Ghosted,” Evans plays “Cole.”  He is so far from “Steve Rogers” that it’s laughable.  That’s why I’m looking forward to seeing this.  You just know, Evans had a blast getting to play against type like this.  Here’s the official synopsis from IMDBCole falls head over heels for enigmatic Sadie, but then makes the shocking discovery that she’s a secret agent. Before they can decide on a second date, Cole and Sadie are swept away on an international adventure to save the world.
