Former Carolina Panthers Quarterback Sam Darnold Is Headed To The 49ers

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold is headed to the San Francisco 49ers.

According to a Twitter post by ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, Darnold has reached a one-year-deal with the 49ers.

For the 49ers, the move will either add some depth at quarterback behind Trey Lance and Brock Purdy, or create an all-out quarterback competition in the City by the Bay.

Darnold saw limited success in his two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.  He previously spent three years with the New York Jets.  He will join former Carolina Panthers teammate Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco.
