North Carolina Bill Would Make It Easier To Register Your Car Except In Charlotte
To renew a car registration in North Carolina, there needs to be an annual safety check and emissions test. CBS17 says a new bill in the General Assembly looks to change those requirements.
Senate Bill 341 would end emissions tests. One problem. There is an exception. That is for people living in Mecklenburg County. Officials said the air quality in Mecklenburg is just too close to the EPA’s safety standard for the Ozone, to remove that requirement.
They also will change the rules for the frequency of annual safety inspections. The new Bill would make it a lot easier on newer cars. For cars less than three years old, no safety check would be needed. For other cars, the inspection would occur every other year.
