George Strait and I had this in common.  We were early watchers of Dancing with the Stars.  Part of the charm in those early days of watching the dance competition was head coach Len Goodman.  Word came early this morning that ‘Dancing With The Stars’ judge Len Goodman passed away.

I haven’t watched the show in years but I was all in when it first came on the air 17 years ago.  Len says he was surprised when they called him to be the judge on the British version before Hollywood came calling for the American reprise.  He was the “cranky” judge who liked ballroom rules to stay ballroom rules and he had little tolerance for the modernization of classic dances.

In 2009 Goodman was diagnosed with prostate cancer . According to published reports it was bone cancer that took his life.  According to Variety magazine,” The BBC released a statement just minutes after Goodman’s death was first announced by the public broadcaster, with director general Tim Davie calling him a “wonderful, warm entertainer who was adored by millions.”

Len Goodman is survived by his wife Sue Barrett and son James Goodman. He was 78. To learn more about the story get details right here from Variety.
