When I was going to college over at Western Carolina University this mountain town was a place we could go for dinner or shopping. Then we felt safe. Now, Asheville is a town of 90,000 people and sadly seeing an increase in crime. This North Carolina mountain town is now doing something about surging crime.
The city of Asheville has approved a 60 day initiative that will take “targeted steps” to shore up public safety. I honestly did not know crime had gotten this bad in a town that I used to love to go to every weekend. Back then, downtown Asheville was all about peace and love. Fox News reports aggravated assault rose by 21.8 percent and robbery by 20 percent.
The city of Asheville reportedly says they plan to increase law enforcement downtown with foot, bike and vehicle patrols. There are also plans underway to do some clean up of litter, needles and biological waste. To learn more get all the details from MSN right here.
