Bans At Myrtle Beach In Effect And There’s One You May Be Unaware You’re Violating
Visitors celebrating the July 4th holiday along the sands near North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
It’s the time of year we start gearing up to get into beach mode. And, May 1 is also when seasonal rules take effect on many beaches, including Myrtle Beach. Frequent visitors to the area already know many of the bans at Myrtle Beach this time of year. However, we visit often. And, I found myself unaware of what I saw in the story on WBTW yesterday.
So, we start with the bans at Myrtle Beach most of us already know. First, rules allow our four legged friends on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Therefore, basically keeping the beach dog free during peak visiting hours for humans. Of course, this rule doesn’t apply to service dogs. And, it goes without saying all dogs require a leash to stay compliant.
Next, if you bring your bicycle to the boardwalk there are hours of operation in place there as well. The boardwalk only allows bicycles between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. now through Labor Day.
But, it’s the next thing mentioned in the bans at Myrtle Beach that took me by surprise. According to the story from WBTW, “‘thong style’ swimsuits are not allowed on the beach or in public.” I have to admit in all the years we visited Myrtle Beach I never realized that ban existed. I say this not because I wear one! But, I definitely see them quite often. To each their own I say. However, I assure you I continue to be in compliance for a number of reasons. LOL.
To read more about the rules and possible fines for violating them see the complete story from WBTW. But, for now reserve the thong for the backyard pool.
This South Carolina Beach Is One Of The "Greatest Beach Towns In America"
If you grew up in the Carolinas chances are you have a favorite beach town you grew up going to. Or one you take your family to now. We have no shortage of fantastic seaside escapes. Even growing up in North Carolina I have to admit I’m typically a South Carolina beach person. While I tend to go to the general vicinity of the Myrtle Beach area (thanks to friends who have houses and free is for me). I’ve already read quite a lot of these types of articles and now have several other SC beaches on my must-visit list. Just need to find the time to get to them! Recently I came across yet another publication naming some of the best beach vacation spots. And my interest peaked like always. And of course, somewhere in South Carolina was included when Thrillist created a list of “The 20 Greatest Beach Towns In America”. But with so many fantastic destinations, which made the cut to be recognized?
The list compiled by writers at Thrillist details 20 of the nation’s beach towns in a variety of states. In addition to a general summary of the destination, they also make sure to let you know the must-eat spots and what you can’t leave without. You can read their full article here. Or keep reading to see which South Carolina town was named one of the 20 Greatest Beach Towns In America! And a couple of others that stuck out to me as personal favorites of mine or bucket list destinations!
