NCNA is celebrating nurses in May.

There was a nursing shortage before the pandemic, and the numbers continued to climb in the wrong direction. Nurses will discover that working at the bedside will require more of themselves. This year the theme of Nurses Month is “You Make A Difference,” and each week is going to be epic. For instance, focusing on self-care for one week. The second week is about recognition, and the third week is about professional development. and lastly community engagement. As many of us have learned, self-care is vital in the nursing profession. This year marks the 21st year that Nursing has been recognized by Gallup as the highest-rated profession for honesty and ethics. Meka Douthit Ingram is the President of the North Carolina Nurses Association and always shares inspiring stories about nursing. As the 55th President of the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) Meka represents North Carolina’s 155,000 phenomenal Registered Nurses.

She represents and supports nurses in hospitals, but also in schools and on military bases. Many nurses serve in research and corporations, in C-suites, and in government. NCNA, provides nurses with the tools they need to get the most out of their profession, whether that is through professional development opportunities, quality continuing education, networking with colleagues from across the state, or advocacy for important policy changes.
