With Babysitter Hourly Rates On The Rise How Does It Affect North Carolina?
Any parent understands how expensive it is to raise children. And, it goes up every day. UrbanSitter recently published babysitting average hourly wages for 2023 across the nation. According to the site, rates for babysitters jumped 9.7% in the past year. Their data says the national average is $22.68 per hour. Of course, that’s for one child. The rate rises a bit for a second child. So, babysitter hourly rates are rising. But, what are some of the average hourly wages in North Carolina?
In UrbanSitter’s city by city breakdown, the current hourly rate in Charlotte, North Carolina for one child is $17.27. And, in the Raleigh/Durham area the hourly rate rings in at $18.02. However, with babysitter hourly rates rising, these numbers are nowhere close to the most expensive rate in the nation.
The most expensive hourly wage for babysitters belongs to San Francisco at $25.24 per hour. But, the least expensive city I saw on the list was Springfield, Missouri at $11.35 per hour. Compare this to national rates for pet sitters and housekeepers according to the site’s data. They indicate the average pet sitter rate is just over $21 per hour. And, the average housekeeper makes about $27 per hour.
We know from experience trusting someone with the care of your child is a huge decision for families. Our son is 21 years old. And, even back in 2002 finding care for him was not only difficult, but costly. But, we both had to work to pay the bills. So, staying at home just wasn’t an option. Parents wrestle with making sure they find a good fit for their child. Furthermore, the safety of the child is always the guiding factor in a choice for care. And, we were lucky in finding a wonderful lady through a nanny agency. She became a part of our family, and we adored her.
So, if you find yourself in search of babysitters and child care I wish you all the luck. And, for more on choosing nannies and a look at rates all over the nation read the full article from UrbanSitter.
