Used Disposable Camera Purchase Leads To Another Family’s Photo Gold
Let me begin with this, who knew disposable cameras were still a thing? I mean if there are two industries that have been completely destroyed by the smartphone it’s the telephone/payphone and camera businesses. So when I saw that a photographer in Georgia bought a disposable camera at a thrift store, I was wondering if the word “thrift” was somehow misused instead of “antique.” <g>
Anyway, Aila Cason found herself curious when this Georgia photographer recently purchased a disposable Kodak camera. She wanted to see if the pictures taken on it could be salvaged. What she found became a quest. Despite the film being long expired and the negatives darker than usual (as a result), Cason uncovered a treasure trove of pics taken in 2006 at someone’s 21st birthday celebration.
Okay, what do you do now? Well, what any modern day detective would do…take your mystery to TikTok. Who are these people? Where are they? Do they want their photos?
Before you laugh, it worked! The pictures of course went viral and the family soon reached out to Cason. One member told Aila that a man in the photos had since passed, making these images quite a thing for the family to have. Happy to oblige, Cason supplied the pics to the family, restoring a bit of their history in the process.
The one thing I’d really like to know is how did the camera get from being in use at a 21st birthday party to a thrift store’s shelf seventeen years later?
