As a parent I can tell you. In my opinion, social media does indeed impact the mental health of our kids. If they post something and get a lot of negative responses, it is possible they internalize that and sometimes that can lead to mental problems. This South Carolina school district plans to join a lawsuit against social media.
This school district just so happens to be the one I live in. According to The Herald, the Clover school district is planning to join a class action lawsuit against Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. Clover High School principal Rod Ruth informed the school board Tuesday night about the plans. The board approved the school’s participation. Personally, I am glad to see it. Somebody has got to speak up for the well being of these kids. Enough is enough.
So, why is the school getting involved? Because the mental well being of the students has an impact on the school and the school system. The suit reportedly claims the social media sites make addictive products that can lead to anxiety, depression and even eating disorders. Ruth tells The Herald, “school districts are on the front lines of this impact”.
