We are officially out of Mental Health Awareness Month, that was in May. I feel like we need to keep the conversation going because the mental health crisis just keeps growing. Mental illnesses and the devastating effects are North and South Carolina’s hidden health crisis.
According to a United States Gallup poll,the percentage of adults suffering from depression has increased by 10 percent since 2015. The percentage of U.S. adults who report having been diagnosed with depression at some point in their lifetime has reached 29.0% according to the Gallup poll.
Depression and anxiety can be deadly. Sometimes it leads to the sufferer taking their own life. Suicide is a leading cause of death among teenagers. Everyone needs to be talking and talking now to kids from an early age about their mental health. We take care of their physical, spiritual and social health, mental health needs to be just as much of a priority. Depression and anxiety can happen so quickly and can be so deadly especially in undeveloped minds.
