How Small Businesses In North Carolina Are Learning To Fight Staffing Shortages
Small businesses are an important part of both cities and smaller towns in North Carolina. However, small businesses within the past years have had a hard time staying afloat due to staffing shortages. According to WCNC Charlotte, many small businesses are learning how to combat this problem.
An analysis done by LendingTree shows around 20 percent of businesses fail within the first year. Scott Stearsman is the head of small business banking at Truist. He says that inflation, rising costs, and the economy all play a role in this problem.
In one of Truist recent surveys, they discuss the challenges that many businesses deal with and what efforts those businesses must go through. The survey shows nearly 70% of owners increased wages, time off, or offered remote work in the past year.
The lead of the Greater Charlotte Metrolina region of Truist, Heath Campbell, stated that things such as flexible childcare, personality profiles, and employee recognition programs can also help businesses to gain and keep more employees.
Campbell said “Who is your best employee? Let’s do a personality profile to see what traits and characteristics make them successful in this company.”
Despite the challenges that these businesses face, there is still hope. Over half of the individuals surveyed said that they believe conditions have improved compared to last year.
